Joan Bestler – Managing Director and Diving Instructor
Meet Joan, the Managing Director of our Activity Center! Originally from Germany, Joan is a seasoned PADI dive instructor with over 25 years of experience. Having lived and worked in Mozambique for more than 15 years, locals fondly know her as “Mama Joana.” Her expertise in scuba diving and deep knowledge of the Indian Ocean make her an invaluable guide for underwater adventures. Beyond her diving career, Joan is also a talented designer and leads a community initiative called Me&You Dolls, a project creating children’s toys that support local families. With her vast experience and passion for the ocean and the local community, Joan brings a unique blend of adventure and heart to everything she does. Whether you’re exploring the wonders of Inhambane or engaging with her community work, you’ll find her love for Mozambique in every detail.
Zeca – Land Activities Specialist
Zeca is one of our most dedicated and long-serving team members, and he is known for his expertise in land-based activities. Born and raised in Barra, with extensive experience across various regions of Inhambane, Zeca is the go-to guide for all things cultural and local. Whether leading a cultural city tour, guiding you through quad bike adventures, or showcasing other hidden gems, Zeca’s deep knowledge ensures that every tour is informative and engaging. He is a land expert, and Zeca shines as a top-tier ocean safari leader. In his free time, he enjoys teaching English to our trainees and sharing his passion for languages.
Fernando – Land Activities Specialist, Divemaster in Training and Compressor Technician
Fernando is one of our most versatile team members, balancing roles as a Land Activity Specialist, Divemaster in Training, and Cylinder Compressor Technician. Born and raised in Barra, Fernando’s deep connection to the local area shines through in every activity he leads. Whether guiding quad bike tours through Barra Beach and nearby villages or sharing stories about the region’s rich history and culture, his passion for the land is contagious.
In the water, Fernando is equally impressive. As a Divemaster in training, he often assists on shallow dives, providing valuable support and insight while embodying the role of an ocean ambassador. He ensures everything runs smoothly as our reliable cylinder compressor technician. When he’s not leading tours or diving, you might find him conquering the waters in a kayak!
Ligogo – Divemaster
Felizberto, affectionately known as Ligogo, is our charismatic Divemaster, bringing over five years of experience and a deep passion for the underwater world to our team.
His extensive area knowledge makes him your go-to expert for discovering the best dive sites. Whether you’re seeking to encounter our resident sharks or spot the elusive camouflaged creatures that call these waters home, Ligogo knows precisely where to go. He is well-versed in the local diving conditions and the diverse macro life that thrives beneath the surface, ensuring every dive is an adventure full of discovery.
As a Divemaster, Ligogo plays a crucial role in guiding certified divers on their underwater excursions and conducting scuba reviews.
His dedication to safety and his passion for the ocean ensure that your aquatic experience will be unforgettable.
Ria – Assistant Manager and Diving Instructor
Meet Ria, our newest team member and Assistant Manager at the Activity Center! Originally from London, Ria is a seasoned PADI dive instructor who completed her Divemaster training in Tofo, Mozambique. Her passion for client interaction and teaching dive courses shines through in every class she leads. With a deep love for the ocean, especially nudibranchs and whale sharks, Ria ensures every dive experience is memorable and fun.
After falling in love with Mozambique, she made it her home and hasn’t looked back. Outside of diving, Ria enjoys sewing clothes and dedicates her time to a community project to educate women and girls in her local area. With her infectious love for the ocean and strong commitment to her community, Ria is an invaluable part of our team, ready to guide you on your next underwater adventure!
José – Skipper
Meet Captain Jose, one of our dedicated skippers and a true gem of our team. Born and raised in the beautiful coastal town of Barra, Jose embodies the spirit of the ocean and the essence of family. His passion for the sea runs deep, having come from a long line of fishermen whose knowledge of the waters has been passed down through generations.
With years of experience navigating the waters of Inhambane, Jose is your go-to captain for unforgettable ocean adventures. Whether you’re looking to reel in some big game fish at the finest fishing spots or exploring the enchanting Pansy Island to snorkel with seahorses, you can trust Captain Jose to deliver an exceptional experience. Américo – Skipper
Captain Américo, one of our esteemed skippers, hails from the picturesque town of Barra. With a lifetime spent on the water, he knows the ocean like the back of his hand, making him the perfect guide for your maritime adventures. Boasting over 20 years of experience as a seasoned fisherman and skipper, Américo brings unparalleled knowledge and expertise to our crew.
His friendly and approachable demeanour ensures that every trip is safe and filled with fun and laughter. Whether you’re a seasoned diver or a first-timer, Captain Américo’s enthusiasm will enhance your experience and make it unforgettable.
What sets Américo apart is his willingness to share the local culture with our guests. If you ask nicely, he’ll happily teach you some phrases in Bitonga, connecting you meaningfully with the vibrant local community. Join him for an unforgettable day on the water!
Dino – Tractor Operator and Transporter
Dino is the backbone of our land transport operations, skillfully managing our tractor with impressive precision and power. As our dedicated tractor driver, he is responsible for launching and beaching our boats multiple times daily, expertly manoeuvring them onto trailers, and safely returning them to our boathouse. With his robust tractor at his command, there’s practically nothing Dino can’t move, making him an indispensable part of our team.
Beyond his tractor duties, Dino has a passion for the ocean and enjoys accompanying fishing trips. His extensive knowledge of big game fish is matched only by his culinary expertise in preparing them. Whether it’s tips on the best fishing spots or delicious recipes to try at home, Dino is always eager to share his insights and enrich your experience.
